Our military and veteran communities on the Southern Colorado front range face a heartbreaking crisis.
The statistics are staggering –
The irreparable harm this causes service members, military units, veterans and our community of families is heartbreaking.
Remount Foundation believes there is hope, we intervene, educate, and guide our veterans to discover their lifepath to survival. We provide cost-free services to our veterans, service members and their families.
Our veterans, service members and families need your help.
In 2024, Remount served 4,100 active-duty military, veterans, and their families. Veterans are referred by the VA, Veteran Service Organizations (VSO), and Community Partners to Remount. Over 50% of our veterans admit to suicidal ideation or a previous attempt at intake. These veterans in crisis receive a peer mentor to intervene and guide them on their lifepath to healing.
Every month, command elements from the surrounding military installations authorize active-duty service members to participate in Equine Assisted Philosophy (EAP) group sessions. These sessions teach resiliency techniques through therapeutic activities centered around the horse. These events comprise 60% of our overall participant population.
Remount recognizes service-related trauma and home-life challenges often compound for the service member and their entire family. Twice monthly, the RF Team expands to support this overlooked resiliency drain through family-centered therapeutic events. These “Play Days” allow the entire family to experience healing and growth.
Here are a few facts about our participant community:
Remount Foundation’s horses live on approximtely 1,000 protected acres at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Equestrian Center. Unlike other facilities, our horses spend their nights free to roam the expansive acreage, returning on their own to their morning feed and provide support for our warriors and their families.
The RF Method is built upon the behaviors that result from innate herd dynamics. Our horses are the therapists – there is science underpinning the effectiveness of equine therapy but the horses themselves bring a superpower. Let us introduce you to a few special members of the Herd. Click the “Meet the Herd” button below.
Due to the effectiveness of the RF Method, the program has been officially adopted by the Bundeswehr (German Army). Other allied militaries have also expressed interest in duplicating our program. Read more about the Bundeswehr observing our program in the article link below.
At Remount, our volunteers are combat veterans, active-duty, spouses and family members all volunteering thousands of hours each year to provide equine-assisted philosophy, creating a therapeutic environment that has saved thousands of lives.
We believe we can show our warriors the path to healing because we’ve walked the same terrain, some of us nearly made the tragic decision to quit – but found hope, healing and are re-integrated into our families and are thriving. We found it at Remount and it works.
In 2024, RF spent $80 for each active-duty service member, veteran and family member we put through the RF Method program last year – nearly 4,100 participants. Because we operate with a volunteer cadre, and have only one full-time program director and contract critical business support functions – we are able to operate efficiently and effectively.
The majority of our costs are for horse fees and boarding, veterinary and farrier services, and volunteer training.
